For outdoor and underground wiring, you can use cable suitable for exposure to the elements such as NMWU-90, for direct burial. NMWU 90 wire can encased in conduit (both metal, plastic, or liquid-tite flexible conduit). It is important to check both national and local code rules for outdoor wiring installation requirements.

NMWU cable is generally used as feeder to outside post lamps, pumps, and other loads or apparatus outside or on the exterior of a building and is fed from a distribution point in an existing building as specified in the Canadian Electrical Code.
Multiple conductor NMWU cable may be used for interior branch circuit wiring as well as outside in residential or agricultural buildings at conductor temperatures not to exceed 90°C (with ampacity limited to that for 60°C conductors) as specified by the Canadian Electrical Code. This type of wire is often found used as a precaution inside in damp locations like pool service and equipment bays, and areas where where showers and spas are located. Voltage rating for NMWU cable is 600 volts.
Metal which is not used much outside anymore having been replaced by the plastics that do not need to be protected from rusting, Ridgid or semi ridgid plastics, and the newer flexible plastics that use fewer fittings.
All outdoor electrical fittings and device boxes must be rated for outdoor use, installed with supplied gaskets and appropriate entrance fittings.
Ground Fault Circuit Protection for Outdoor Wiring
Ground fault circuit protection is required for most outdoor electrical circuits so again, check with the local electrical authority for the requirements for your particular outdoor wiring project.
NMWU cable is primarily used for outside use from a distribution point.
NMWU may be used in underground burial.
NMWU temperatures may not exceed 90 degrees centigrade. CSA listed.
